V1k 3R Enclosure Option Now Available
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, September 1, 2010
V1k Output dv/dt Filters are now available in the rugged UL Type 3R outdoor enclosure. This outdoor enclosure option protects the filters from dirt, precipitation, and ice.
V1k Filters provide Superior Protection for Motors. The V1k has a small mechanical layout, but provides a high level of performance. It limits peak voltage, increases voltage rise time, and reduces common mode current by at least 30%. The V1k also runs cooler than previous dV/dT filters, reduces motor heating, motor noise and motor vibration by reducing harmonics in the system. As a result, the life of the motor and cable is increased.
Peak Voltages on a 460 V system can reach 1,200 to 1,600 V, causing rapid breakdown of motor insulation, leading to motor failure. On 575 V systems, the peak voltages can easily reach 2,100 V. If this is left uncontrolled, insulation failure may occur. The same peak voltages that damage the motor can also damage the cable.
By combining a damping circuit with a low pass filter, TCI was able to reduce the voltage rise time and remove the portion of the high frequency signal that contributes the most to the reflective wave on the VFD output signal. The V1k product prevents voltage spikes from exceeding 1,000 V up to 1,000 ft. The product has been used successfully in applications up to 3,000 ft depending on cable and VFD sizes.
The V1k is rated for 16 kHz carrier frequency which makes it compatible with every VFD manufacturer’s standard factory settings. It’s available in sizes from ¾ Hp – 700 Hp, 240 to 600 VAC. The unit carries a UL label and is available in open, Type 1, and Type 3R versions.
